Mamata is unaffected by Abhishek Banerjee's desire to resign from his post.

Multiple sources close to Mamata Banerjee reported on Friday that her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, has expressed a wish to stand down as the party's national general secretary, and Mamata Banerjee is in no mood to dissuade him. 

"Yes, Abhishek has stated a wish to resign after the Goa election on Monday and remain only as the Diamond Harbour MP.... Didi believes it is only a blackmailing tactic. "She's not in the mood to dissuade him right now," a source close to the chief minister said. Abhishek oversees the party's operations in Goa.“

Another insider stated, "She (Mamata) thinks she doesn't have any obligation to foster someone's political career or ambitions," referring to the long-held belief that Abhishek is her political heir apparent.

Mamata has called a meeting at her home at 5 p.m. on Saturday, amid unprecedented developments in Bengal's ruling party. The meeting has been called for Abhishek, Trinamul secretary-general Partha Chatterjee, party state president Subrata Bakshi, and senior leaders Firhad Hakim and Aroop Biswas. 

"Didi is furious with Abhishek and also with I-PAC (Prashant Kishor's polling firm) because of some recent happenings.... According to a source, she wants to assume command of the party's organisation and is expected to establish a steering group of senior executives tomorrow.

According to the sources, Mamata, who was unanimously elected party chairman on February 2, was preparing to make some organisational changes following the civic polls. 

"However, the situation necessitates rapid response.... "That's why she called the meeting tomorrow, on a day when four corporations are holding polls," the insider said. 

Since the Kali Puja-Diwali season last year, there has been speculation that the divide between Kalighat (Mamata's home) and Camac Street (Abhishek's office) is expanding. While Mamata attempted to keep the divides hidden at first, she reportedly told her trusted lieutenants a few days ago that "enough is enough."

One thorny issue appears to be Abhishek's open support for "Opop" (one person, one post). Hakim held a press conference on Friday to emphasise that the party's top leadership does not support the "Opop" line. 

"Those who participate in a (social media) campaign in support of the policy should be aware that their posts are not approved by the party and are not endorsed by the supreme leader" (Mamata). They should remove them.... "This is incorrect," Hakim stated. 

He was referring to statements made by Trinamul youth and student wing leaders Debangshu Bhattacharya, Sudip Raha, and Trinankur Bhattacharya, all of whom are known to be close to Abhishek.

On social media, Abhishek's paternal cousins Akash Banerjee, Agnisha Banerjee, and Aditi Gayen – who are not known to be close to Trinamul's Number Two – made the same demand, raising questions about whether the Banerjee clan of 30B Harish Chatterjee Street was disintegrating over allegiance to one of the camps. 

"Didi has stated unequivocally that she has no family and that the people of Bengal are her family," a source added. 

"While the Opop policy was approved at a top-tier leadership meeting on June 5 last year, Didi made it clear that it could only be implemented in stages.... Furthermore, senior members of the party see the constant demand for Opop as a ploy to divide the party.
